Section 144 imposed in B’baria over 2 BNP counter programmes

The Bancharampur upazila administration has imposed Section 144 as two factions of the BNP announced counter programmes at the same location and time today in Brahmanbaria.
Bancharampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Abul Monsur issued the order yesterday, he confirmed to The Daily Star around 11:00pm.
This order will remain effective across the entire municipal area from today to 6:00pm on Friday (November 21). During that time, no meetings or gatherings can be held anywhere.
According to the upazila administration and local sources, upazila and municipal unit BNP bi-annual council is scheduled to be held tomorrow morning at Bancharampur SM Pilot High School ground venue.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the party, was scheduled to attend the council as the chief guest.
Meanwhile, when a faction led by former MP and BNP executive committee member MA Khalek opposed the council and took out a procession yesterday, another faction loyal to Central Krishak Dal joint General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Polash, attacked it.
At least 54 people were injured in the clashes between the two groups.
One group of the local BNP was desperate to make the council a success and the other group was trying to resist it.
In this situation, section 144 has been issued by the administration.
It is to be noted that on October 23, the BNP central committee announced the date of the council of Bancharampur, Kasba, Akhaura and Sadar upazila and also municipal units of Brahmanbaria district.
